Riding a side by side is a lot of fun. Not only is it exciting, but it’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors. At the same time, reckless behavior can lead to serious consequences. Stick to Designated Trails

While the idea of exploring off trail might sound exciting, there are many reasons why it’s actually a bad idea. For one, going off-trail in your UTV can damage delicate plants and disturb animals. Going off trail is also illegal if you’re riding on federal or state land. Even in areas where it’s technically legal, riding your side by side off the trail increases the chances that you’ll get into an accident.  

Safety Equipment

Side by side riding gear is designed to help protect you from injury if your side by side gets in an accident. Make sure that you and all of your passengers are equipped with a DOT-certified helmet, goggles that provide anti-fog/UV protection, and full-length clothing to protect your skin.

Be Polite

Following basic trail etiquette while riding your side by side is also important. For example, be sure to give other riders the right of way when necessary. In some situations, you may need to inform others of how many riders are coming behind you. If trail conditions are unsafe, be sure to inform other riders when you see them. Finally, if you see someone stopped on the side of the trial, stop for a moment to confirm that they are taking a break and not in need of assistance.
